Effective 6 November 2026
Overview
LitigationWatch (we, us) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). It applies to our website and the LitigationWatch service.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, and your account settings and preferences.
- Your watchlist: the entity names, ACNs or ABNs and notes you add. These usually relate to companies, but notes you write could include personal information.
- Alerts: the court information our monitoring matches to your watchlist. Court records can include the names of people involved in proceedings.
- Billing information: your plan, subscription status and Stripe customer reference. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe, not by us.
- Enquiries: the details you give when you contact sales or support, such as your name, organisation, role, phone number and message.
- Security data: to protect sign-in and contact forms from abuse we record a one-way hashed form of your IP address with sign-in requests and enquiries. Our hosting provider processes standard request logs.
How we use it
- to provide the service: running your monitoring, sending alerts and showing your alert history;
- to sign you in and keep your account secure;
- to process subscriptions and payments;
- to respond to your enquiries and provide support;
- to send service messages, such as changes to these policies or our terms; and
- to maintain, secure and improve the service, and to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your watchlist for advertising or marketing.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies: one to keep you signed in, one to complete a sign-in you have started, and one to show a confirmation message after an action. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies or third-party trackers.
Who we share it with
We disclose personal information only to service providers who help us run LitigationWatch, under obligations to protect it, or where required by law:
- Cloudflare, which hosts the website, application and database;
- Stripe, which processes payments and manages subscriptions;
- Resend, which delivers our emails; and
- our monitoring systems, which process your watchlist to find matches.
Overseas disclosure
Our service providers operate globally, so personal information may be stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where they have facilities. We take reasonable steps to make sure they handle it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Security and retention
We protect personal information with measures including HTTPS encryption in transit, passwordless sign-in with single-use links, access controls and hashing of sign-in tokens and IP addresses. See our Security page for more.
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account we permanently delete your account, watchlist, alerts and sessions. Expired sign-in tokens are deleted automatically. Stripe keeps billing records as required for tax and accounting. Enquiries are kept for as long as needed to respond and to keep business records.
Access and correction
You can see and update most of your information in your account. You can also ask us for access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting us through our support page. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first through our support page and we will try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and, if the changes are significant, tell you by email.
